Dash Trouble

Bob, I don't know how many other Venture riders have experienced this but I had alot of functions on my 83 straight Venture computer monitor that were freaking out. I seem to remember reading about this in Venture Road long ago..

I took the dash out and re-soldered a bunch of the connections. Within a year, it was worse. I carefully removed the headlight and left the fairing intact. Through the hole, I could see that in the assembled form, the wiring harness was PULLING on the dash board socket connection very hard. This time when I fixed the dash (and it required alot more work!), I payed special attention to holding the wiring harness up to the fairing framework with wire ties, thus removing the tension.

It has been nearly 5 years since the last time I had any doubt about my Gas Guage... or any other instrument !! Hope this helps someone out there...

Best wishes,

Rob Cooper (VTS#02526)

Dash Problem:
have an 88 VR.at times the dash panel goes blank, blinkers stop working, temp guage and amp guage stop working.Bike keeps running when this happens, hit a bump and the panel resets and all seems fine. leads me to believe a loose plug or maybe corroded.wondering if anyone else has run into this and what it was.would like some input before I start taking things apart.appreciate any help, thanks

Solution posted by member Cpt:
Just got done fixing this. I thought it was a ground and after tearing out the whole instrument panel I found the "U" that hold the fuse on the signal fuse was broken and not keeping tension on the fuse therefore not suppling current. The hazard flashers worked with the running light but no turn signal, temp, amps, tach, clock or the module that has the gas gauge and computer thingy in it. But the dash lights worked. Go figure. I replace the entire fuse block as I had trouble before with one from auto zone.
