Early models (83-85) of the Venture originally had stator failures due to heat. Yamaha designed a "Stator Coil Oil Cooling Kit" (Part # 90891-30014) to provide an oil spray onto the windings to remove heat. The kit contains a rotor bolt that is drilled out through the center, a slinger in the bolt hole and plates to direct the oil back onto the stator as it is slung out of the bolt.
Yamaha did release a Tech bulletin and many were upgraded, but if you have a 83-85....check to see if it has the kit.....might save a future stator failure. If you remove the chrome cover (2 screws) from your stator cover you can see if the plate is there and if the bolt is drilled....If so, it already has the update kit.
The original bolt was not drilled.

The update was incorporated into production of the redesigned 1986 and later Venture 1300 models.
