Antenna Mount

For those folks looking for a simple Antenna Mount, I have found one in the JC Whitney Motorcycle Catalog.  Originally listed for the Gold Wing, it fits perfectly on my 83 standard, bolting into the bracket located under the trunk on the right side of the luggage rack.  The 1/4-20 screws won't work with the existing bracket holes, had to use 10-32 and 8-32 screws instead.  The stock number is 06HZ2482B, the price is $14.98 in the July 31, 1999 catalog (86J).........BobE

Replacing FirstGen Antennas

Go down to your local Radio Shack and they sell a replacement antenna that is a stainless stinger about 3.5 feet long. Of course you only need less that 24 inches so you will have to cut it off. Score it with a chisel and where you can put it in vise and break it at the score. Then grind the rough cut down with you bench grinder. The diameter of this RS stinger is just bit larger than the hole in your preload, so drill it out to same size. Then you will have to set the SWR with a meter to get it tuned in just right. Oh, grind a small flat spot on bottom of the stinger where the set screw hits it, so when tight will not let the stinger turn.....Rick Butler
